The full version of the NDSU economic impact study for the North Dakota oil and gas industry (65 pages) is now available on the North Dakota Petroleum Council website. Some key statistics for 2007 include...
- total number of producing wells --- 3,759
- total production --- 45 million barrels
- total number of wells drilled --- 336
- average expense per drilled well --- $4.3 million
- lease and exploration expenses --- $1.536 billion
- secondary economic impacts from exploration --- $4.257 billion
- processing and transportation gross volume --- $707 million
- local and state government tax revenues --- $520 million
According to the study, "The sheer size of the industry in 2007 suggests that much of North Dakota’s recent economic vitality can be linked to the expansion of petroleum exploration, production, and processing in the state. Current activity levels in the petroleum industry clearly make it one of the key forces in the North Dakota economy."
