Despite the plunge in oil prices, drilling activity continues in the Bakken formation in western North Dakota. Texas-based Brigham Exploration announced yesterday the completion of a new well in Williams Country with an inital 24-hour production rate of 1,200 barrels. The well's official name is Olson 10-15 #1H.
The Olson well is between two other Brigham wells drilled in 2006 that produced inital production rates in the 200 barrel-per-day range and subsequently stablized at between 50 and 90 barrels per day. Those two wells were completed with one fracture stimulation. The Olson well was completed using 20 fracture stimulation stages, which the company believes largely accounts for the higher production rate.
Brigham controls over 100,000 acres in the area surrounding the Olson well. Company president Bud Brigham stated that up to 164 wells could be drilled there. The company also has working interests in Roosevelt County, Montana.
