Today's post on BusinessWeek's Green Business blog describes a new turbine design that could revolutionize the wind power industry. The turbine, developed by FloDesign Inc., reportedly is smaller, lighter and three times more efficient than the turbines in use today.
According to Green Business, the FloDesign turbine accelerates air passing through the turbine blades, making it capable of generating energy from lower wind speeds than is currently possible with traditional turbines.
FloDesign, headquartered in Wilbraham, Massachusetts, has received funding from the U.S. Energy Dept. and from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prototypes of the turbine are currently being tested. No estimates were provided as to when the turbines would go into production.
