GTL Energy USA Ltd., operators of a recently-completed coal drying plant west of Dickinson, says its initial test successfully removed 65 percent of the water from 450 tons of low-quality lignite shipped from New Zealand. Plant officials say this will allow the coal to burn cleaner and produce more than 40 percent additional energy.
The plant, which uses a process called benefication to produce coal briquettes, is scheduled to test a shipment of lignite from Indonesia later this year. Read more...
