Beet Ethanol Pilot Plant Announced (Update)

A Fargo-based group is going to see if they can make ethanol from beets by building a demonstration plant for a cost of between $4 million and $6 million. The plant would process "energy beets" which purportedly can produce twice the amount of ethanol as corn and are not otherwise used for food. The group hopes to put the plan online in 2012. Ethanol Producer (EP) today provided some details on yesterday's announcement. According to EP, the project eventually will include 12 energy beet-based ethanol facilities, each with a capacity of 20 million gallons per year. The plants will be located in the central part of the state. Read more...
