MDU Update

At their earnings call on Feb. 3 MDU Resources summarized their Williston Basin activities during 2010 and outlined their plans for 2011. Some highlights...

Mountrail County. Eight wells were drilled last year. Production increased 41% over 2009 levels with production averaging approximately 3700 net barrels per day. Over 50 future middle Bakken in-fill and Three Forks well sites in the Mountrail County acreage. During 2011, the company expects to drill 13 operated wells and participate in various non-operated wells. About $52 million will be invested in the Mountrail County acreage.

Stark County.  Approximately 50,000 net acres were acquired in 2010 targeting the Three Forks formation. The company's first discovery well, the Kostelecky 31-6H was drilled to a depth of 10,220 feet with a 4226 foot horizontal lateral, was completed with 16 fracture stages. The well tested at a 24 hour rate of 1343 barrels of oil equivalents. Two other test wells currently are in development. The company plans to drill an additional six operated wells and participate in various non-operated wells on the Stark County acreage this year. Initial capital expenditure forecasts for this area are in the $37 million range.
