Carbon Storage Project Scrapped

The Financial Post is reporting that the $270 million Montana-Saskatchewan carbon storage project announced in 2009 has been abandoned due to lack of funding. The project was intended to capture CO2 from a coal-fired power plant owned by SaskPower and transport it into Montana for storage underground. Although announced with great fanfare by Saskatchewan and Montana government officials, the project did not generate sufficient interest from either the Canadian or United States governments, both of which turned down requests for $100 million to implement the plan, according to the Financial Post article.
