New Keystone Environmental Report Released

In a draft of a 300-page supplemental environmental impact statement circulated by the U.S. State Department on Friday, the government appears ready to reject the idea of altering the route of the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline to protect the Nebraska Sandhills and the Ogallala Aquifer. A 45-day public comment period on the supplemental findings begins in a week and continues through June 6. A subsequent 90-day inter-agency review is expected to include the Environmental Protection Agency, among others. Included in the documents released Friday was another State Department affirmation of its goal to either approve or reject the project by the end of the calendar year. Read more...
