In a draft of a 300-page supplemental environmental impact statement circulated by the U.S. State Department on Friday, the government appears ready to reject the idea of altering the route of the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline to protect the Nebraska Sandhills and the Ogallala Aquifer. A 45-day public comment period on the supplemental findings begins in a week and continues through June 6. A subsequent 90-day inter-agency review is expected to include the Environmental Protection Agency, among others.
