Several Democratic senators said in a hearing yesterday that the Environmental Protection Agency should increase its regulation of the natural gas industry to keep toxic chemicals used in drilling from entering the public water supply, according to a report in the New York Times. Senate Republicans, state regulators and some environmental advocates testified that further EPA oversight is unnecessary and that there are no cases of contaminated drinking water being linked directly to drilling practices such as hydraulic fracturing, the Times reported.
