New Bakken Rail Loading Map Released

One of the biggest transportation stories of the past year has been the continued expansion of rail transportation of crude oil.  According to the North Dakota Pipeline Authority, rail transportation accounted for 58% of all crude oil movements in November 2012, up from 22% a year earlier. This month, the Pipeline Authority released a new map that indicates the locations of twenty-two crude oil loading facilities in North Dakota (see link below). The capabilities of the facilities range in size from a handful of tank cars to 100+ tank cars loaded per day. The map also includes an outline of the Bakken and Three Forks formations and all active wells from October 2012. The Pipeline Authority has also published its January 2013 newsletter (click here) and its January 2013 production update and transport chart (click here).
