SD Legislators Propose Wind Energy Tax Breaks

A bipartisan group of South Dakota state legislators reportedly have introduced a tax break measure for the wind energy industry. The bill would fully refund contractor’s excise taxes incurred for wind farms as well as 25 percent of the state sales tax. A spokesman for the South Dakota Wind Energy Association said about 40 percent of the refunded revenue would be recouped with a production tax once a wind farm is completed and online.
