Dakota Spirit AgEnergy Gets EPA RFS-2 Approval

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reportedly has granted Renewable Fuel Standard-2 certification for the Dakota Spirit AgEnergy ethanol plant to be located in the Spiritwood Energy Park near Jamestown. The certification allows the developer Great River Energy to begin seeking financing for the plant, which is expected to cost approximately $130 million. Dakota Spirit AgEnergy will convert 23 million bushels of corn into 65 million gallons of ethanol per year using steam produced by the nearby 99-megawatt Spiritwood Station, a coal-fired electricity plant completed in 2011 and expected to go online in 2015.
