New Wind Farm Bill Introduced in South Dakota

A new bill reportedly has been proposed in the South Dakota legislature that would lower the taxes paid by wind farm developers in the state. Under the proposal agreed to on Thursday, developers could apply to the South Dakota's economic development board for up to a full refund of the four percent sales tax currently levied on projects with costs of $20 million or more. Taxes on wind farm construction in South Dakota are up to ten times higher than in Iowa, Minnesota or North Dakota, according to a recent analysis done by wind energy developer Iberdrola Renewables. Read more
