Using Wellhead Gas to Run Drilling Rigs

The Energy and Environmental Research Center at the University of North Dakota recently partnered with the North Dakota Industrial Commission's Oil and Gas Research Council, the U.S. Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory and several major oil and gas producers in a 47-day project to demonstrate and evaluate the use of wellhead (waste) gas for fueling diesel engines that power drilling rigs in North Dakota. The project reportedly demonstrated  an overall decrease in diesel fuel use, fuel cost, truck transport of liquid fuel, and emissions without adversely impacting drilling operations. The project was the topic of a webinar hosted by the North Dakota Pipeline Authority this week. Read more
