CSX Projects Increase in Bakken Rail Shipments

CSX Corp. reportedly has projected an increase of its crude-by-rail deliveries of Bakken oil to U.S. Northeast by up to seven-fold over the next two years. The Florida-based company said it currently moves about 70,000 barrels per day to refineries in New York and Pennsylvania but has the capacity to add up to six or seven 100-tanker train deliveries per day. A company executive said new pipeline capacity is not a significant competitor since the oil transported by those facilities tends to be much heavier than the light sweet crude preferred by most eastern refineries.
