Yet Another Oil Play?

The buzz has been building over the past few weeks about another major oil play in western North Dakota. Known as the Tyler formation, it is believed to rest directly above the Bakken formation and is estimated to be one-third to one-half of the latter in terms of land size and oil reserves.

The formation has producing wells already, but they are older wells drilled vertically and have not produced at the rate of more recent wells drilled horizontally in the Bakken and Three Forks. Initial action is expected to occur in the Dickinson area southward to Slope County within the next year when oil companies better determine the formation's characteristics. Read more...
