The Wall Street Journal is reporting today that federal subsidies for manufacturers of solar panels and wind- and solar-power facilities will end on New Year's Day unless a compromise is reached with Republicans who say the subsidies should be excluded from tax cut legislation currently being negotiated. A recent proposal by Democrats to extend the programs through legislation from Sen. Max Baucus (D., Mont.) was rejected in the Senate over the weekend. The Baucus bill also contained a compromise provision for ethanol subsidies, which are still up in the air. Read more...
