EPA CO2 Rules Upheld by Court

According to published reports out today, a U.S. federal appeals court has rejected a bid by industry to overturn the nationwide regulations aimed at controlling greenhouse gas emitted by industry. The new rules are set to go into effect next month. Industry groups oppose the rules, saying they increase costs and create uncertainty.

The new rules require new and upgraded facilities such as power plants to obtain state-issued permits in order to emit greenhouse gases. Obtaining the permits requires facilities to show they are using the best available technology to control greenhouse gas emissions.
