Feinstein Comes Through for Renewables

Amidst the clamor surrounding the tax bill to be voted on tomorrow, it appears there has been a significant development for wind power and other renewable energy. Without much fanfare, California’s Senator Feinstein has included in the tax bill the Advanced Energy Tax Incentives Act of 2010, which includes provisions for advanced energy storage technologies. These are often considered wind power's missing link.

Included in Feinstein's legislation are..

Thermal energy storage tax credits (SEC 963 and 964), which could be used to support technology that stores off-peak wind energy as heat that can be sent out on demand.

Tax credit to invest in on-site energy storage (SEC. 963) to “provide supplemental energy to reduce peak energy requirements primarily on the same site where the storage is located.” Technology of this type has been designed to store wind energy on rooftops at night and use the energy to run air conditioners during the day.
