Largest Single-Build Wind Farm Goes Online

The largest single-build wind farm in the history of the industry has been put into full commercial operation in Kansas. The 470-MW Flat Ridge 2, jointly owned by BP Wind Energy and Sempra U.S. Gas & Power, has a total of 294 1.6-megawatt wind turbines on 66,000 acres in parts of Harper, Barber, Kingman and Sumner counties, which are south of Wichita in the southeast corner of the state. The new facility is expected to produce enough electricity to supply 140,000 homes. Kansas is ranked number two in the nation for wind energy potential. North Dakota is ranked number one. Read more
