New Zealand Lignite Briquette Plant Update

Solid Energy New Zealand Ltd and GTL Energy Ltd, an Australian-based coal technology company, have announced successful sustained production runs at the first plant utilizing GTL Energy's coal upgrading technology. The plant, located in the New Zealand town of Mataura, will produce low-moisture lignite briquettes for the country's South Island market. The two companies have also signed agreements for the formation of a joint venture company, GTLE Development Ltd, to both run the plant and pursue project development and deployment of the technology globally. In addition to the Mataura plant and a commercial demonstration plant in North Dakota completed in 2010, GTLE has plant projects under various stages of development in Indonesia and Australia, and other opportunities under review in the USA and Europe, according to the company's press release.
