Saudi Arabia Looking at Shale Gas Production

The Wall Street Journal reported today that Saudi Arabia is planning to develop its shale gas reserves, estimated to total nearly 600 trillion cubic feet. An exploration program is set to begin this year, but no informaton was provided about when commercial production might be possible or where the desert nation would obtain the water for fracturing the shale gas wells. Several exploration wells are also planned for deep and shallow water in the Red Sea, according to the Wall Street Journal article. Read more
