Basin Electric Buys Green Energy from Nevada Supplier

Ormat Technologies, Inc. announced today that it has begun the commercial operations of two power plants in its Recoverable Energy Generation (REG) project. The facilities generate electricity using waste heat from the exhaust of compressors along the Northern Border pipeline. According to the company, the process generates electricity--5.5 MW from each plant--without the need for additional water or fuel and produces no CO2 emissions. Ormat, based in Reno, Nevada, plans to complete two additional plants of this type by the end of 2009.

The output from the first two plants has been purchased by Basin Electric Power Cooperative of Bismarck.
