Dakota Salts Issues Update

An update released today by Denver-based Dakota Salts stated that the company has begun the process of selecting consultants to conduct a feasibility report on the 5,000 acres the company has leased in Burke County. The company announced recently that it plans to mine for salt and potash and use the resulting caverns to store compressed air generated by off-peak power from wind farms.

The update provided additional details on the potash potential of the Burke County acres based on documents in the public domain. According to the company, those documents indicate the salt and potash deposits range in depth from 5,000 to 12,000 feet. Geologists' reports indicate the total reserve of potash in North Dakota is approximately 50 billion tons, with up to 10 billion tons recoverable using current technology.
