EPA Agrees to Study Bush Coal Policy

The new EPA administrator, Lisa Jackson, announced today that it may consider revising the Bush administration's policy on regulating emissions from coal plants. The decision was in response to a Sierra Club petition that asked the agency to reconsider a decision made in December 2008 by former EPA administrator Stephen Johnson that prohibited officials from considering greenhouse gas emissions when evaluating applications from utilities to build coal-fired electrical plants. The issue will now be put out for public comment before a final ruling is issued.

The Sierra Club's press release on today's ruling is available here.
